Reiki and exam anxiety: what did a student trial find?

A quarter of Reiki recipients reported less stress; examination grades did not differ significantly.

Journal of Nursing Education · Ünal et al. · Published:

Research in brief

Seventy-one nursing students were randomised. One group received 20-minute distance Reiki on four days; controls received no intervention. A quarter of recipients reported less stress and perceived better performance. Reductions in cognitive and psychosocial anxiety scores were not statistically significant. Grade averages did not differ significantly.

Editorial perspective

Some students feeling less stressed is an encouraging personal-experience finding. A session may be considered quiet personal time during exam preparation. The trial did not demonstrate improved grades; continue your study plan and any professional support you need.
