Royal Cornwall: service and experience

Annie MacDonald’s service began in 2022 and reaches The Cove and hospital wards. Appointments can last 40 minutes; ward sessions are shorter and hands-off. Patients describe relaxation, trust and sometimes falling asleep. These are institution-reported personal experiences.

Editorial perspective

Attentive time during a difficult period is the strength of this report. The patient’s comfort and trust illustrate what support meant to them. Individual satisfaction does not imply the same experience for everyone.

EVIDENCE IN CONTEXT

Distinguishing use from evidence

These independent institutional summaries distinguish mental health, mind–body relationships and complementary practices. Psychological factors do not cause all illnesses. Findings about relaxation or psychotherapy cannot be transferred to Reiki or devices. Offering Reiki in a hospital does not establish therapeutic efficacy or imply endorsement of WorkNestAcademy. Reiki does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment. NCCIH states that effectiveness for health purposes has not been clearly demonstrated.
