St George’s: Reiki experiences from the trauma ward

The trauma-service leaflet includes patient accounts of calm, relaxation and better sleep. It is institutional service information with experiences, not a controlled trial.

Reiki on a trauma ward

The November 2025 Full Circle leaflet describes 15–30-minute Reiki on St George’s major-trauma ward through care-team referral. Patients remain clothed, in bed or a chair, with light touch or no touch. Patient accounts emphasise calm and good sleep. This is a service leaflet.

Editorial perspective

Attending to comfort after trauma matters. Positive accounts of calm and sleep illustrate the support’s value to these patients. They are individual experiences, without an expectation of identical results for everyone.

EVIDENCE IN CONTEXT

Distinguishing use from evidence

These independent institutional summaries distinguish mental health, mind–body relationships and complementary practices. Psychological factors do not cause all illnesses. Findings about relaxation or psychotherapy cannot be transferred to Reiki or devices. Offering Reiki in a hospital does not establish therapeutic efficacy or imply endorsement of WorkNestAcademy. Reiki does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment. NCCIH states that effectiveness for health purposes has not been clearly demonstrated.
